How do you change the perception of an event venue? From exhibition halls to a multiformat event location capable of hosting both small and large events? A long journey, but a successful one! Alain D’Haese, COO of Easyfairs Belgium, reflects…

“It wasn’t just about launching a nice marketing campaign to shift that perception. It has been a long-term effort. Above all, the combination of various initiatives has ensured that the event sector now recognizes Flanders Expo as a home for all types of events. The current event season proves that this transformation is succeeding and is still in full swing.
“We spared no expense or effort to turn our exhibition halls into an event venue. Adjusting our sales and marketing strategy, investing in a black box, renovating our meeting and event center, a new approach to event catering, digital signage, increasing overall comfort, focusing on high-quality service with our own talent and external partners, a rebranding, and the execution of a well-thought-out master plan have allowed Flanders Expo to undergo this transformation.
“In recent months, we’ve experienced the results firsthand: from a garden and agriculture fair to a massive party weekend with 24,000 attendees, or from a large corporate event to indoor karting.”
With more than 56,000m², Flanders Expo Ghent is the second-largest event venue in Belgium. Our 8 modular event halls, meeting center, and Blackbox are perfect for a congress or trade fair, but equally suitable for a concert or corporate party.
Flanders Expo is also the first public event venue with an extensive range of public charging stations. No fewer than 50 vehicles can be charged simultaneously at speeds of up to 22kW per charging point.

Easyfairs, the operator of Flanders Expo, previously outlined its ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) strategy. For Easyfairs, ESG is a strategic choice and priority that forms the basis of all decisions. It is not a project but a mindset that every Easyfairs employee must embrace. At the end of November 2021, Easyfairs signed the ‘net zero carbon events pledge,’ a commitment to halve CO2 emissions from events by 2030 and to organize CO2-neutral events by 2050. This is a significant milestone to drastically reduce the ecological footprint of Easyfairs trade fairs, events, and venues. The focus is on 5 priorities: energy, travel and accommodation, transport and logistics, food, and waste management.
